Unit 6-Meditation Exercise & Integral Assessment

Hello fellow health & wellness enthusiasts,
I found the exercise this week both positive and challenging.  The fact that it only took 10 minutes, I loved that.  It was simple and the words kept me focused.  The challenge is the fact that my life this week has been quite a challenge.  I have had some disagreements with my husband and then he left this weekend on business, my work was very demanding.  This weekend my In-laws are coming and staying a few days, so I was frantically cleaning today which took away from my college work.  So sitting down and trying to focus on assisting individuals gain or find what they need to succeed, was hard for me.  I'm going to be human and say what more can I do?  That is bad to say isn't it.
So based on the above situations I would have to say that when it comes to the integral assessment, I have areas that need to be worked on.  "When quiet, ask yourself, "What aspect of my life -psychospiritual, biological, interpersonal, or worldly-is the source of difficulty and suffering?" (Dacher, 2006, p.115).  I think the obvious one is interpersonal aspect.  I was thinking about trying the Union exercise on page 92 of Dacher, with my husband.  I will have to of course pass it by him and hopefully I will get him to agree.  Has anyone done this exercise, if so how did it go and did it work?  Let me know what you think.
Thanks, Emily

  1. Hi Emily,

I agree I also find it difficult to concentrate on others too and obviously interpersonal relations is the area I need to concentrate on too. I looked at that exercise on page 92 and I don't know if I could do that, it seems too intense for me, lol. As you can see I need help in this area. As with anything else with daily practice I believe you just get better with the exercises, but the key is finding time daily, especially challenging is when you already have too much on your plate on a given day. 2. Wow Emily, and sometimes we feel we are the only ones who want to just scream and stay a few nights at the serenity spa!! lol! I feel ya, it can be very difficult to please everyone, which is how I feel sometimes. I have to be a constant reminder to myself that I am not superwoman, even if everyone around me believes I am. Being a mother of two teens, full-time student, full-time nursing instructor, part-time floor nurse, and a dad who is 73 and lives with me, life can be very challenging to sit for even 10 minutes to clear your mind to make room for universal loving-kindness! I literally have to go to the coffee shop sometimes down the street with headphones to get my homework done and not worry about what is going on in my house. Good luck!

  3. Sounds like you had a hectic few days. Things will turn around and improve, but I look at things scenarios in life as ways to help love flourish and build better relationships. Hang in there and thank goodness we only have 3 more weeks left!

  4. Hi Emily,

Wow, it is really going on in your life. Using some of this course content will be a great source of help for you.

I had a problem with this exercise this week because of the distractions in my life. My computer has been aboslutely funky which created great stress especially related to getting posting and school work done. Then I just had a problem getting in touch and focusing with this practice. But, today I woke up refreshed and relaxed and before I took on the world, I did the exercise and much was revealed. In completing the second part of the integral assessment I now know the area of development is interpersonal related to community which exceeded family or personal life focus. I believe the urgency this area is related to establishing my future business of working with adult women in recovery and desire to fully develop a God-given vision.
